School height and weight checks

What are school height and weight checks?
The National Child Measurement Programme or NCMP monitors obesity levels in primary school children. Local Councils are legally required to conduct this programme, and the information collected is used to plan better services for children and families. Children’s height and weight are measured in Reception and Year 6 and results are shared confidentially with their parents or carers.

Understanding your child’s growth
We understand that every child is unique, and their weight may change as they grow. A GP, school nurse, or other health professional can help you understand how this fits in with their growth, development and behaviour. They can also support you if you have any concerns or questions.
