Thinking about quitting the vape? This guide will show you how to break the habit with practical tips and support to help you stay on track.

Why you should quit vaping

It can be harmful to your body, especially when you are still growing, here’s some of the top reasons for quitting vaping:

Nicotine is addictive

The liquids in vapes contain nicotine, which can be seriously addictive, especially when your brain and body are still developing.

The best thing for your lungs is fresh air

Your lungs deserve clean, fresh air, rather than chemicals that can be found in vapes.

It’s illegal under 18

In the UK, you have to be 18 or older to legally buy or use e-cigarettes or vapes.

Quit tips

Here are some tips to help you along the way:

1
Talk to your friends

If you’re used to vaping with friends, let them know you want to quit and ask for their support.

2
Reach out for support

Feeling stressed or upset? Talk to someone you trust, whether it’s a family member, teacher or friend.

3
Write down your reasons

Make a list of why you want to quit vaping. Keep it somewhere you can easily see it. When cravings hit, look at your list to remind yourself why quitting is worth it.

4
Set a quit date

Pick a date when you would like to stop vaping. Having a goal can help you prepare.

5
Try a replacement

If cravings are tough to handle, you can try nicotine replacement therapy products like patches or gum. Visit your local pharmacy for advice on which product could be good for you.

6
Substitute with distractions

Instead of reaching for your vape, try chewing gum, sucking on a sweet, or sipping water from a bottle. They can help with cravings and distract you from the urge to vape.

7
Find something for your hands to do

Keep your hands busy with a stress ball, drawing, gaming, or another activity that helps take your mind off vaping.

8
Get moving

Exercise can help with cravings and boost your mood. Whether it’s going for a walk, dancing, or riding a bike, find something you enjoy like joining a sports club, karate, boxing or swimming.
